Deputy Mayor's Apology for Late Call to Resident

Bruce Sisler apologizes to resident about hour-long after-midnight call that was partially recorded and posted on YouTube.

The following is an apology from Morris Township Deputy Mayor Bruce Sisler about the late and "unwanted" call that he made to resident Lee Goldberg on Aug. 3. Sisler released the apology Thursday night via e-mail to Patch. Goldberg posted about 12 minutes of the one-hour long call on YouTube. In the portion recorded, the two argue about conflicts regarding the Honeywell proceedings, and Sisler asks Goldberg about his motives and curses occasionally.

On August 2, 2012, I had come home after a typical long day, and received an email at 11:25 pm from Mr. Goldberg that was quite critical of my work on the Municipal Messenger as a Township Committeeman. In late 2010, at the direction of Mayor Rosenbush, I was asked to provide the Morris Township residents with a Municipal Messenger in electronic form to save taxpayer dollars  after it was removed from the line item budget in order to save jobs.  I put my  heart and soul into this  piece of communication over the past  two years because I believe the information provided is important to all of our residents.

I was bothered by his email’s tone but regardless, I made a mistake by calling him at that hour.  The next day, I received an email from Mr. Goldberg that addressed some of the issues we discussed in our hour-long conversation that included ideas he had regarding Township business.

After our August 15, 2012  Township Committee meeting, our Municipal attorney  learned of the complaint of the phone call from Mr. Goldberg and he contacted me regarding the filing of a complaint. I immediately asked him to set up a meeting where I could apologize personally to Mr. & Mrs. Goldberg for the hour of the call.  That request was rebuffed by the Goldberg's.

Presently, this matter is in front of the Morris Township Board of Ethics but has been released to the public.  I will abide by the Board's review and decision on this matter.

That being said I once again would like to formally apologize to the Goldberg family for the hour of the call.
