Morris Township Mayor: I'd Move Road to Build Field

Open space proposal for Honeywell campus revealed at Planning Board meeting.

Morris Township Engineer Jim Slate presented at Monday night's Planning Board meeting the first draft of a plan for a 13- to 14-acre open space project on Honeywell campus.

Resident Lee Goldberg took a video of Slate's presentation that described the possiblities that the land could be used for near the back of Honeywell by Kahn Road.

Mayor Peter Mancuso said the area could be used for a sports field and senior center.

"I think a very, very important thing is that we could build a full-size football/soccer field in that area and I would do anything possible, including moving the road to make it possible."

Slate said when organizers made the plan, they maximized the area for use to come up with the sports field area.

Slate could not be reached for further comment.

The Township Committee will meet Wednesday night when a presention from JCP&L will be given about the company's latest communication improvements.

This is a white wash.. and watch.. just like Delbarton.. make the votes during the Summer vacation period when most are away.. Stack the deck Morris Twp. We need more balanced rule.. not the same old leadership..

We appreciate the work that the Planning Board and the Mayor and Township Committee are doing related to the Honeywell project. This is a project that has been fully vetted and will ultimately make our Township stronger. More jobs, sustained tax revenues and a business partnership with a company that has become a strong community partner. Unfortunately, it's easy to throw barbs and conspiratorial accusations from the sidelines. Bottom line - because of the hard-work of our leadership - the Planning Board, Mayor and Committee, the Township benefits and our fiscal bottom-line remains healthy. To me the best leadership (not rule) comes when it is committed to the entire community, not just partisan control.
