'Passion' and 'Pizzazz' Help Lift Morristown Football
Second-half surge propels Colonials past Chatham for first win of the season.
Both teams came into Saturday's game looking for their first win of the season. A hard-fought defensive battle for the first half, it was not until the third quarter that either team got on the scoreboard.
| 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | FINAL | |
| Chatham (0-3) | 0 | 0 | 6 | 0 | 6 |
| Morristown (1-2) | 0 | 0 | 7 | 14 | 21 |
Chatham scored first on a 9-yard touchdown run from junior quarterback Thomas Guida.
But Morristown came back with a 65-yard punt return by Kamau Dumas. Jordan Powell added another touchdown with a 22-yard run for the Colonials.
Chatham sought to come back and mounted a strong drive that stalled on the 2-yard line.
Chatham went for the touchdown on fourth down but was stopped by the Morristown defense.
"We needed a good defensive job today and I think we had one," said Morristown head coach Chris Hull.
On the next play, Kamau Dumas took the ball from the backfield 98 yards for a touchdown. "The line did a great job, they really got a good push," said Dumas, "I just stuck to my reads and I had a bunch of blockers in front of me. I just thank the blockers for making the seams for me."
