Following a major, disastrous event such as Superstorm Sandy, some sometimes may seek a way to turn others misfortune to their advantage.

Morris Township recently issued a letter to residents warning them about potential Hurricane Sandy "fraudsters" and what they can do to make sure their not fooled.

Some of the most common "fraudsters" include phony building contractors and other scam artists who "could soon appear in our community attempting to take advantage of our vulnerability as a disaster survivor," according to the release.

"Your first and best defense is to know the most common post-disaster fraud practices," according to the release. These include phony building contractors, housing inspectors as well as fake offers for federal or special aid.
