POLL: Vote for the Morristown Area Person of the Year

TIME magazine named President Obama their person of the year for the second time—now it's your turn to choose who should take the honor for Morristown, Morris Township and Morris Plains.

Your nominations are in and the poll is up. Now, we want to know: Who is the Morristown area Person of the Year?

On Dec. 19, Time magazine named President Obama their Person of the Year for a second time.

The magazine invited votes on 40 candidates, including the president, Gabby Douglas and Kim Jong Un. Other options included The Mars Rover and the Higgs Boson Particle, Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, and Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teen who was shot by extremists for her advocacy of education for women in that country. But, the president took the title again four years after he first won the award as president-elect in 2008.

But, these are national, global issues. What about right here? Who do you think is the Morristown area's Person of the Year—the man or woman who, in Timespeak, “most influenced the news this year for better or worse”?

The poll will be up for voting until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, New Year's Eve. The Morristown/Morris Township-Morris Plains Patch Person of the Year will be announced on New Year's Day.

Good luck to the nominees!

I'm sure Kendra appreciates all the love. Just remember to come back and vote when the poll goes up on Friday. This is just for nominations, so she just needs to be nominated once.

Robert L. Parker of Morristown who was the primary driver in having the abandoned property on Hillcrest Ave deemed to be "open space". The property overlooks Morristown from a beautiful sloped vantage point and was originally determined to have multi unit condominiums/housing constructed there. Mr. Parker fought tirelessly to keep this piece of land from over construction.

Sheriff Ed Rochford

In addition to the fine job he has done as Sheriff and for being named Grand Marshal for Morristown's 2013 St. Patrick's Day Parade, Ed has been very involved with helping children with cancer, especially running fundraisers to help defray medical expenses.

He also is a strong supporter of St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in Madison, NJ and has been honored by the Morris County Chapter of the Cancer Society as the “Volunteer of the Year.” The Boy Scouts of America presented him with their “Good Scout” award for his fundraising and volunteer work.

I nominate Richard Smith of Morris Township, the 2012 Morris County St. Patrick's Day Grand Marshal, to be the Morristown-area Person of the Year. Mr. Smith was busted for DUI in August 2012. Alcohol Abuse and Morristown - Perfect Together.
