If you haven't heard enough crazy crash diets for extreme rapid weight loss, this is a new one. That's right, stick in a feed tube in your nose on a 800-calorie-a-day diet.

The K-E Diet, featured in a recent New York Times article, involves having a nasogastric tube inserted through the nose and down into the esophagus for up to 10 days. The diet consists of a slow drip of protein and fat mixed with water, totaling 800 calories per day with no carbohydrates.

The 10-day weight loss treatment costs $1500 and can result in the shedding of up to 20 pounds through ketosis, where the body burns fat instead of sugar.

Apparently, many brides-to-be have tried it in order to lose weight quick in a few weeks to fit their wedding gowns and look their best on the wedding days.

What they don't realize that is the short-term impact on their health and side effects - constipation, bad breath, dizziness, kidney stones, dehydration and headache.  The long-term impact could be their mindset, psychology and attitude toward nutrtion, fitness, exercise and healthy lifestyle.

You can lose weight on 800-calorie-a-day diet by yourself although it’s below the safe daily calorie intake recommended by FDA and dieticians. And you’ll be likely to lose muscle and water. When you resume your regular diet and calorie intake, you will gain all the weight back plus some.

I smell the conflict of interest in medicine, medical practice, ethics and greed.

The choice is yours. All I can say is that K-E Diet is a biggest loser’s hunger game.
