Morristown resident Receives TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship from Citizens Bank

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Citizens Bank today announced that Morristown resident Zachary Certner has been selected as a recipient of its fourth annual TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship. Started in 2011, Citizens created the scholarship program as a way to recognize and reward students whose volunteer efforts have made a lasting impact in their communities.

Certner will receive $5,000 and was chosen based on the responsibility and leadership skills he has demonstrated through his community service. The scholarship program was open to U.S. residents who are 16-years of age or older and are attending or accepted to a federally accredited four-year college, university or graduate program for the Fall 2014 semester.

“Zachary is an inspiration to us all. He has contributed to his local and global communities in ways that are making a long-term impact,” said James P. Gaspo, President and CEO of Citizens Bank and RBS Citizens for New York. “As a private student lender offering affordable solutions to help students finance their college education and a company committed to contributing to the health and vibrancy of our local communities, we are honored to recognize and reward Zachary and the nine other TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship winners for their efforts.”

Certner started a nonprofit organization called Special Needs Athletic and Awareness Programs, Inc. (SNAP) which provides special needs children with athletic and social programming. In an effort to decrease bullying and discrimination of special needs children, Certner founded SNAP to not only provide these children with athletic and special programming, but to also improve their physical abilities and self-esteem so they might integrate successfully with their peers.

As part of its commitment to students and to making education more affordable, Citizens Bank offers the TruFit Student Loan product to students who live or attend school in the continental U.S. The TruFit Student Loan is a private student loan available with a fixed or variable rate and flexible repayment terms of five, 10 or 15 years, giving students the choice to select the option that best fits their needs.
