Library Closed After Sprinkler Snafu Soaks Second Floor

Morristown and Morris Township Library is still assessing damage from Wednesday's deluge.

Ever wonder how fun it is to have a sprinkler burst over your head in the middle of a polar vortex?

Not fun, according to Morristown and Morris Township Library assistant director Chad Leinaweaver.

But that is exactly what happened on Wednesday when a sprinkler head burst near the children’s book section on the second floor of the library.

According to Leinaweaver, the efforts of the first responders saved the collections and contained the damage but the library was closed to the public for most of Wednesday, all of Thursday and Friday and the weekend is still in doubt.

Library director Maria Norton said they would be closed "most likely through the weekend" and would be opening to the public as soon as it was safe to do so.

And how fun was the unexpected shower?

"It was no fun having a sprinkler head go off on you," Leinaweaver said.
