Five Reasons to Visit the Morris Museum Thursday

Spotlight tour, art workshop, new book and a few hours of free admission.

Anytime is a good time to visit the , but this Thursday, May 26, would be a particularly good choice:

1. There's a Drop-in Art Workshop: Every Thursday from 3:30–6:30 p.m., the Museum holds Open Art Workshops that are appropriate for children of all ages. Have some fun as museum educators guide you in creating a small work of art. Stop by any time during the workshop hours. $4 per child for members; $5 per child for non-members

2. There's a One-Hour Spotlight Tour: On Thurs., May 26th from 6-7 p.m., take part in a special program series called, "Illusion & Intrigue: Magician Automata." Museum staff will  help you to, "explore the role of magic in the Victorian-era Paris, through illusion  & magic-related automata (animated figures). Participants will enjoy a live demonstration of select pieces from the Murtogh D. Guinness Collection." Please call 973-971-3720 to pre-register. Admission is $7 for members, $9 for non-members.

3. They Let You In Free: Even when finances are tight, you don't have to deny yourself a culturally-enriching experience. The Morris Museum offers free admission to the regular galleries on Thursdays from 5–8 p.m.

4. They Have a New Book: Pick up a copy of the book that documents the incredible musical machines of the Guinness Collection . Written by Ellen Snyder-Grenier, the hardcover volume is called, "Musical Machines  and Living Dolls: The Murtogh D. Guinness Collection of Mechanical Musical Instruments and Automata.”

5. The Gift Shop is Terrific: The gift shop at the Morris Museum may be small, but there is always an abundance of fun, unusual and inventive products.
