Join a Book Club, Donate Blood, Meditate on the Full Moon

Helpful information for Jan. 19, 2011.

After a holiday and a snow/ice day, it's time to venture outside and get re-acquainted with your community. Here are five things you need to know today:

  1. You need to know that you can join a book club: If you've read Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague by Geraldine Brooks, tonight could be a good time to check out the Morris County Book Club Meetup Group. These avid readers have been meeting monthly since 2004. RSVP first, then join the group from 6–7 p.m. at, 1711 State Route 10 East in Morris Plains.
  2. You need to know that Morristown Memorial Hospital wants your blood: State assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll, (R-District 25) of Morris Township, is sponsoring a blood drive atto draw attention to the urgent need for blood and/or platelets during January, a slow month for donations. Carroll is expected to donate blood around 11 a.m., but you can show up any time between 10:15 a.m. and 7 p.m. and ask to be directed to Blood Donor Services at "Franklin D."
  3. You need to know about the Full Moon Meditation: Somya Khurana of The Art of Living will host a free full moon meditation at , 131 Mountain Way in Morris Plains at 7 p.m. Seats are limited; please RSVP to somya.ramrakhyani@artofliving.org.
  4. You need to know about the Morris Township Committee meeting: The regular meeting of the township committee (public segment), will be held at 8 p.m. at the , 50 Woodland Avenue in Morris Township. 
  5. You need to know that there's a hockey game tonight: Morristown faces Randolph at the  at 5:45 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for students, $1 for seniors and children 12 and under.
