Springtime pursuits are beginning to creep into our weekend round-up. Outdoor events like hikes, a bird walk, a plant sale, a trail race and more are finally on the schedule. Let's just hope the weather cooperates over the next few days.

Why Go: Because you’re a fan of Mathis, who has been performing since the 1950s, when he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Where/When: 2 p.m. at the Morris County Library in Whippany on Friday, April 15.
Why Go: Because all the films shown in April at the county library will be Oscar nominees. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Why Go: Because this hike, hosted by the Great Swamp Watershed Association, will include games to learn more about sharpening our senses at night.

Cinematic Titanic
Where/When: 8 p.m. on Friday, April 15 at the  in Morristown.
Why Go: Because if you are a fan of “Mystery Science Theatre 3000,” then you will probably enjoy this live version, complete with the original cast of the television show.

Why Go: Because this play by the Women’s Theater Co. tells the story of four English women learning about themselves and about romance in Italy in the 1920s.

Why Go: Because gently used children’s bikes can be brought to the school for donation, and the bikes will go to children who cannot afford bikes.

Why Go: Because proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an organization that combats breast cancer and provides funding for research. Also, it’s a chance to see some figure skating stars.

Why Go: Because the band will perform hits from some of its platinum albums, and admission will include desserts, coffee, and soft-drinks.

Why Go: Because, whether you bring your binoculars or borrow some at the event, you can take an early morning stroll and check out some birds. For ages 10 or older.

Why Go: You'll hold tight to your family's and friends' hands as you learn not everything you hear at night is scary.

Where/When: April 16 and 17 at The Leonard J. Buck Garden in Far Hills.  Saturday hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday hours are from noon to 5 p.m.
Why Go: You'll enjoy the spring air and Earth Day celebration with a guided tour of the naturalistic rock gardenand you can bring some perennials home to continue the beauty.

Why Go: Because children of all ages can stop by anytime during the workshop to make spring watercolor paintings.

Why Go: Because 20 percent of dinner sales will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Montville, including takeout orders.

Why Go: If you like Cinderella, or if you like ballet, then this family show should be a great way to spend the afternoon.

Where/When: From 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the  in Kinnelon on Sunday, April 17.
Why Go: Because anyone age 7 or older can join the staff of Pyramid Mountain for this hike, which will take place during the setting sun and the rising moon. Flashlights are welcome.
