'Morristown's Got Talent!' Registration Now Open

Auditions will be held next month for the seventh annual show in February at the Mayo Performing Arts Center.

Seven years ago, the Morristown Education Foundation reached out to the community and with their own version of reality competition for the benefit of the local school system. The response, was tremendous and each year talented locals wait for the chance to strut their stuff as a part of "Morristown's Got Talent!"

Step one, is registration, which is now open.

The seventh annual event, which benefits the Morris Education Foundation, will hold the final show on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2014 at the Mayo Performing Arts Center.

Four judges will select a winner, who will receive a $1,000 cash prize, and second-place ($500) and third-place ($250) finishers.

Auditions will be held at Morristown High School on Dec. 14. Auditions are open to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Morristown, Morris Township or Morris Plains. Morristown High alums are also invited to audition.

“We are proud to give our community’s local amateur talent an opportunity to perform in front of their hometown, and in a top notch facility such as the Mayo Performing Arts Center” said Kim Pistner, Board Member and Chairperson of the Morristown’s Got Talent Committee. “We are anticipating selling out the theater once again this year.”

The deadline to register for auditions is Wednesday, Dec. 4. There is a $10 audition fee. To register, visit the event's website.

Molly Servais, chairwoman of the Board of the Morris Educational Foundation, said the event furthers the organization's ability to distribute financial and other resources to and for the Morris School District for enrichment programs.

“The Morris Educational Foundation is a integral part of the Morris School District," Servais said. "This fund raising event will further enhance the quality of education and educational opportunities for students in the district."
