This Weekend: Rocks & Minerals; Crafters Trunk Show

The Stickley Museum is opening their annual Crafters Trunk Show, and the Morris Museum is hosting Rock and Mineral weekend.

Rock and Mineral weekend at the  begins on Friday from 12 to 3 p.m. and will continue through Sunday. There will be fossils to examine, mineral, gem and fossil dealers, children's activities, including a mineral magic show and a sandbox scavenger hunt.

If you're looking to avoid the malls this Black Friday, but you still want to shop, then the Crafters Trunk Show Opening Weekend at the is probably the event for you. After the member's preview Friday morning, the trunk show opens, featuring unique, artisan crafted gifts – pottery, jewelry, spun glass, and more, all made by mostly local artists.

There will be Jim Webb's ceramic lamps, which have been featured in movies, and jewelry by Zachary Bloom, of Accents in Bloom.

"It is one of our most successful events of the year," said Betty Wyka, the visitors services coordinator at the museum.

The show is open every day this weekend from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will be open for the same times for the next three weekends. It also will be paired with the museum's open house in December – an event that includes craft demonstrations, a pianist, a choir, and refreshments.

There will also be a few events at the Morris Museum this weekend, and three more performances of Moonlight and Magnolias at the Bickford Theatre, described below.

Friday, November 26th

  • Rock and Mineral weekend at the begins on Friday from 12 to 3 p.m. and will continue through Sunday. 
  • Part 2 of the , "Cheap and Popular Pictures," will be screened at the Morris Museum at 1 p.m. The documentary tells the story of a boy whose images were quintessentially American, narrated by Scott Simon of NPR.
  •  , a play about the behind-the-scenes making of Gone With the Wind, will be performed at the at 8 p.m.

Saturday, November 27th

  • Part 1 of the Currier & Ives Perspectives on America Film Series, "Printmaking to the People," will be screened at the Morris Museum at 1 p.m.
  • continues at the Morris Museum from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Moonlight and Magnolias begins at the Bickford Theatre at 8 p.m.

Sunday, November 28th

  • Rock and Mineral Weekend continues at the Morris Museum from 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Moonlight and Magnolias begins at the Bickford Theatre at 2 p.m.
