Local Verizon Employees Pack Backpacks for Inaugural Benefit Project

School’s starting back up and while parents are rushing around buying glue sticks, spiral notebooks and lunchboxes, some families are not as fortunate.

The Verizon in Morristown is joining other stores in an inaugural effort called the World Vision Promise Packs project.

To help underserved students in the Philippines get ready for school, Verizon employees in New Jersey, Georgia, Pennsylvania and California will assemble 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies and basic hygiene items to help children stay healthy and stay in school. The employees will do this over the next few weeks, according to Alicia Gentile, Tierney on behalf of Verizon Wireless.

The Verizon Wireless Northeast Area Headquarters assembled backpacks this past Friday. As part of the World Vision Promise Packs project, the Verizon Foundation, pledged $25,000 to support the Promise Pack program. 

While packing the backpacks, Verizon employees will also write personal notes of encouragement to each recipient, according to Gentile.
