Photos: On the Road: 100 Years of Motorcycles in America

On the Road: 100 Years of Motorcycles in America opened at the Morris Museum on Sunday, Sept. 25 and will run through Sunday, Dec. 4.

With approximately 40 motorcycles on display, the ’s new exhibition, "On the Road: 100 Years of Motorcycles in America", explores the many facets of the motorcycle – its origins, engineering innovations, customization, and, of course, bike culture.

The exhibit, which opened Sunday, Sept. 25 and will run through Sunday, Dec. 4, will feature many special programs geared toward bikers.

On Thursday, Oct. 13 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. members and non-members can bring their bicycle helmets to the museum and make them more original with paint, stickers and ribbon. Participants will also learn how to wear their helmets properly and learn tips for safer riding. Tickets are $3 for mebers and $5 for non-members. Registration is required. Motor Maids Lecture

The oldest continuously-operated motorcycling organization for women in
America, the Motor Maids, will be the subject of a discussion led by Gloria Tramontin Struck, an early member of the organization. During the lecture, on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m., Struck will talk about the changing role of women bikers throughout the decades. Heels on Wheels Tea and Fashion Talk

On Saturday, Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Frederica Johnson, fashion instructor and costume designer, will take attendees on a video journey of motorcycled-inspired fashion throughout the decades. Afternoon tea and light refreshments will be served. Registration is required. Please call 973-971-3720 or email programs@morrismuseum.org to register by October 7. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.

Winterize Your Motorcycle

On Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m., Scott Avery, custom motorcycle designer and owner of North Jersey Customs in Denville, will explain how to prepare a motorcycle for the long winter season and get set for extended motorcycle storage. with Registration is required.
