Wash n Wiggle Aims to Get Dogs Clean and Happy

Morris Plains shop treats dogs like royalty.

Many business names are descriptive. Wash n Wiggle is extremely descriptive.

Called a pet service center by owner Cynthia Dockx, known to her clients as Cindy, the shop houses a full-service groomer, self-service bathing parlor and retail business. Full most of the time with wiggling pooches.

The three groomers have at least five-years experience each and they use top-of-the-line products. The same may be true at other groomers, but the difference is the environment. Unlike most similar facilities, there are no stainless steel tables and tubs. Everything the dogs touch is anti-microbial and non-slip.

“Safety is our number one priority,” Cindy said. But the material also helps the dogs feel safe and cuts down on the noise and thus on the dogs’ anxiety.

There are five suites for self-service. Patrons can take up to 30 minutes to wash and dry their dogs, also in a safe and quiet atmosphere. In addition, if the customer needs help he or she can press a call button and summon a staffer to assist.

Cindy has 25-years experience in business and  worked in Colorado where pet grooming facilities are all over. “They just pull up in their pick-ups and drop their dogs off,” she said. “I wanted to take it to the next level; to fit the demographics of the area.”

In the retail area, products are all natural.

Wash n Wiggle started with the grooming business, but is moving into other services.

One dog walker is currently employed and that area of the business is slated for expansion. Clients can also sign up for emergency access service, staff can go to the house and take care of the dog if the owner has to work late.

Come spring, the clean-up part of the business will begin.

Clients can contract for feces removal from their yards, starting before the landscapers start to get really annoyed.

Cindy hopes to open a second location eventually and may eventually frachise the business.

Wash n Wiggle is at 233 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains, and is open Mondays through Wednesday s from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday s from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with 5 through 8 “Yappy Hour” featuring specials, Fridays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a. m. to 6 p.m. There are frequent promotions and specials.
