Cooking Class, Museum Events This Weekend

The Morris Museum will feature various events on different topics, from a science film to narrative memoir writing to how chocolate relates to heart health.

Cynthia Triolo, a chef who studied at the New York Restaurant School (now the Culinary Institute of America) and La Varenne in Paris and who owned Rose City Bakery Café in Madison will put on two cooking demonstrations this weekend at the Haggerty Center of the .

“Generally in all the classes I choose four recipes to do in the two hours, which is quite a feat sometimes,” said Triolo. “I’m very well prepped for the classes, so I don’t spend a lot of time measuring.”

The first class was scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, but it filled up, so the Friends of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum opened up a morning class from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the same day.

Triolo usually focuses on different themes throughout the year, depending on the season and what local produce is available. In the winter, of course, options are limited, so last month she did a demonstration using maple syrup. This weekend’s classes will focus on Tea Breads and Coffee Cakes.

“I try to focus on different techniques within a theme,” Triolo said.

Members of the Friends of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum pay $20 and non-members $25 for the class. For more information, see the Friends’ website.
