Five Things You Should Know about the Mansion in May

Glynallyn, an historic castle in Convent Station, is this year's show house.

The Women’s Association of Morristown Medical Center presents its signature fund raiser for the entire month of May. Glynallyn, an historic castle in Convent Station, is this year’s Mansion in May.

1) Built between 1913 and 1917

The castle was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

2) 42 rooms

The castle is 32,000 square feet. There are 575 stained or painted glass windows reflecting many eras of history and some quite whimsical subjects. There are 16 chimneys, no two of which are identical.

3) Bas reliefs

Some of the décor are bas reliefs, but a number of the bas reliefs from the house are now in the Parish Hall of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown, donated by Allen’s daughter, Lorraine, in memory of her parents..

4) Country house

In spite of its size, Castle Glynallyn was the country house of the Allens, who lived in New York City.

5) New department

The funds raised this year will go toward an innovative Onpatient Hospice and Palliative Care united at the medical center.
