Master Plan Change Will Be Studied

Honeywell will continue hearings on redevelopment of its property

The Morris Township Planning Board is working on a recommendation for an amendment to the municipal master plan to be sent to the township committee in response to the proposal for redevelopment of the Honeywell property.

The recommendation is to based on environmental and traffic studies and was drafted by the Technical Coordinating Committee, made of up the township’s professionals: township Engineer Jim Slate, Township Planner Paul Philips and Planning Board Attorney Brian Burns.

Honeywell revised plans for their property based on a series of hearing throughout 2011.

The initial plan included a 250-room hotel at the corner of Columbia Turnpike and Park Avenue. This was removed, but the plan still includes 259 residential units and office space. An alternate plan brings the number of condominiums and townhouses down to 202 but includes an 150-unit continuing care retirement community.

A Honeywell press release said the new plans will result in less traffic and fewer school-age children than the original plan.
