Morris Plains Parks To Possibly Become Smoke-Free

The Morris Plains school board will meet this Tuesday as well

Morris Plains Board of Health Meeting

The Borough Board of Health will meet in the Council Chambers at Borough Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday

At the last meeting, the board discussed several topics, including black vultures. The vulture problem on Central Avenue is being handled by the borough’s Animal Control Officer, Meredith Petrillo.

In the area of Communicable Diseases, Scott Aue, Environmental Health Specialist, noted that the following cases were reported within the past month: 2 Hepatitis B, 1 Flu, 1 Chicken Pox and 1 Lyme Disease. There were no child health services provided or inquiries about vaccinations.

Regarding the Board’s Wellness Day in October, Scott has been speaking with Carlos Perez and Cindie Bella. They are awaiting our decision on the date and reserving it with the Community Center. They have also met with Vicky Hughes at Morristown Medical Center regarding the Wellness Day.Scott then mentioned monitoring cases of lead poisoning. They post information on children having elevated levels of lead in their blood. The entire family is monitored and followed. There were no cases reported in Morris Plains.

Borough School was inspected and everything was immaculate, according to the Board of Health minutes.

A detailed memo from Carlos Perez, Health Officer with the Morris County Office of Health Management, stated that there were the upcoming educational credits required of Board Members, a possible ordinance for smoke-free parks, food handling classes in both English and Spanish provided by Carlos Perez and the updating of the Emergency Plan. Borough Council Member Frank Mangravite noted that the Emergency Plan has been given to Peg Dugan and Perez.

Morris Plains Community Park Pool to Open Soon

The Recreation Commission apologized for not being able to open the Community Park Pool this past weekend and hopes to have it open this upcoming weekend.

Clip-a-Thon for Alzheimers

Great Clips of Morris Plains is having a Clip-A-Thon on Tuesday from 3 - 9 p.m.  All proceeds from haircut sales will be donated to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Please come out and help make this event a success

Public Health Nurse at Community Center

The Board of Health Public Health Nurse Cindie Bella is available at the Community Center on Jim Fear Drive between 1 – 3 p.m. on Monday.

Bella is available to provide blood pressure screenings, basic health information, referrals to health-related services, and to answer general questions.

Morris Plains Board of Education

The Borough School Board will meet on Tueday at 7:30 p.m. in the Borough School Learning Center.

Morris Township Environmental Commission

There will be a special Joint Meeting between the Parks and Recreation Advisory, Open Space and Environmental Commission on Thursday at 7 p.m.
