Parenting Author Speaks, Recycling Resumes, Tea Helps Horticulture Students

Helpful information for March 30, 2011.

Four mornings a week, we give you a heads-up on what's happening in Morris Township and Morris Plains and what you need to know about it. So, here goes: 5 things you need to know today:

  1. Book Discussion: On March 30, a discussion on very funny parenting book, "Get Out of My Life, But First Can You Drive Me and Cheryl to the Mall?" will take place at the Morris Plains Community Center at 7:00 p.m. The event was organized by the Morris Plains Municipal Alliance (MPMAC) and the $5 admission fee includes a copy of the book. To reserve a seat, contact carolynanngallo@gmail.com. We originally reported that the author, Anthony Wolf would be appearing. That is incorrect
  2.  The Blackburn Scholarship Tea: On Wednesday, Mar 30, starting at 1 p. m., the 12th Annual Benjamin C. Blackburn Scholarship Tea will be held at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum. The speaker will be Bill Graham, owner of "Beautiful Things Ltd." in Salem, Massachusetts, whose presentation will be entitled, "The Little Black Dress." The Blackburn Scholarship is awarded annually to County College of Morris horticulture students. Price: $50 members, $55 non-members.
  3. Salad Days of Spring Family Program: You actually missed the March 28 official deadline to sign up for this event, but there are still some spots available if you act quickly. On Sunday, Apr 10, from 1–3 p.m., The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum will launch the "Second Sunday," series of family programs. Come each month for seasonal hands-on activities, classes, crafts and garden explorations. In April, families will create a salad bowl garden to take home. Price: $20.
  4. Webinar for Parents: On March 30 at 4 p.m., the Morris Plains Child Development Center is offering a free webinar called, "How to Create a Learning Culture in Your Home." Registration info is available here.
  5. Recycling Pick-up: Don't forget–the recycling pickup in Morris Township that was cancelled due to snow on March 23 is rescheduled for March 30.
