Decision Day: Election Survival Guide

A mix of contested and uncontested elections for council and board of education seats in Morris Township and Morris Plains.

Election day is Tuesday and Patch wants to make sure you are ready to cast your vote in the local races.

Voters in Morris Township have a choice between a sitting mayor and a newcomer when they head to the polls. Two are running for the one open seat on the Morris Township Committee, which is a 3-year term:

  • Incumbent Peter V. Mancuso—Republican
  • Cathy Wilson—Democrat

Mancuso, the current mayor, has lived in Morris Township 48 years. His current stint on the governing body is his second, as in the 1980s he was also mayor.

Where things are exciting in Morris Plains is in the race for school board. In the 2013 race there are three open seats for four candidates. Newcomer Francis Foley is looking to dislodge sitting board president Cynthia Fetherston as well as Lee Connor and Maria Manley.

The Morris School District did not move their election to November when given the opportunity, so there is no local race.

Polling locations will be open from 6 a.m. - 8 p.m.
