STAND UP AGAINST SUBSTANCE ABUSE with former Boston Celtic, Chris Herren

The Community Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Morris (CCSHM), in collaboration with the Morris County Department of Human Services and Morristown Medical Center, will host “STAND UP AGAINST SUBSTANCE ABUSE” with former Boston Celtic, Chris Herren, as he shares his rise to NBA stardom, only to lose it all to addiction and his eventual road to recovery. The powerful presentation for students, parents and all of the community will be held at the Mount Olive Performing Arts Center, 18 Corey Road, Flanders at 7 pm on Thursday, April 24.  Chris Herren is the author of “ Basketball Junkie” and the subject of the ESPN Film, “Unguarded”.

CCSHM member, Denise Mariano, had heard Herren speak at events in Long Valley and South Jersey last year. She said, “ It’s life changing for the student and for the parents, it’s a rude awakening. If I heard him (Herren)speak three years ago, things might have been different for Michael (Mariano’s son, who is in recovery from a heroin addiction). Maybe we would have known earlier that we could have helped.” Mariano and other Coalition members are excited to report that over 400 people have already registered for the April 24 event.
