Dine to Donate at Morris Plains Plaza

Plaza Diner hosting fundraising benefit Nov. 23.

As part of the Coupons For The Community program, the Plaza Diner in Morris Plains is hosting a a Dining to Donate fundraising event to benefit the Community Soup Kitchen & Outreach Center of Morristown on Nov. 23 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

The Plaza diner will donate $1 to Coupons for the Community for each flyer turned in with a meal (Limit 1 flyer per table). These monies will be used specifically for shopping for food needed by the Community Soup Kitchen.

“We will also be accepting donations of non-perishable and toiletry items for the Community Soup Kitchen which serves up to 300 people a day, 365 days a year,” said Tommy Katechis, owner of the Plaza Diner.

The Plaza, located at 746 Speedwell Avenue in Morris Plains has recently overhauled their menu to add healthier options and has moved away from a cash only operation.

“We now accept credit cards,” Katechis said.

Items needed for donation include:

  • Hearty meals in a can
  • low sugar and low sodium items
  • canned fruit and vegetables
  • whole grain pasta
  • brown rice
  • oatmeal
  • cold cereal
  • cans of coffee
  • tea bags
  • toiletry items (shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.)
