Morristown Model UN Takes Second Place in Conference

Model United Nation's Club excels in first conference of the year.

Written by Sue Coven

The Morristown High School Model UN Club is off to a fast start after their participation in its first conference of the year on Nov. 16 garnered them a second place finish. 16 MHS students attended the Franklin High School Model United Nations Conference in Somerset. Representing various committees, the delegates caucused, drafted and defended resolutions, made alliances with delegates from other nations, practiced their public speaking skills, and competed for prizes and awards.

Considering that it was the first conference for most of them, the students exceeded expectations. Standouts included Ankita Sharma and David Coven who won the award for “Outstanding Delegation” in Disarmament and International Security as UN representatives of Germany.

The MHS Model UN Club was started last year and already has over 50 members. Delegates will have their next conference at Princeton University in Dec.
