According to Police Chief John McGuinness, McIver discovered a vehicle in the municipal parking lot shortly after midnight.
“Officer McIver met with the occupant of the vehicle
he gave no real reason why he was parked in the lot at such a late hour,”
McGuinness said. “The subject told Officer McIver he failed on his first
attempt and was about to complete the act when she arrived and stopped him.”
The victim was taken to Morristown Medical for a mental health evaluation.
“Officer McIver is to be commended for her actions that night and for giving the victim a second chance in life today,” McGuinness said.
