Who is the Morristown Area's Person of the Year 2013?

Patch is bestowing its second annual honor to someone in Morristown, Morris Township or Morris Plains and we need you to decide who it is.

It is hard to believe that We're just weeks away from turning the calendar on 2013, a year in which we saw great accomplishments and, sadly, lost loved neighbors.

So, we're asking you, our readers, to nominate a "Person of the Year" for 2013. In 2012, Patch's inaugural competition for this honor, voters in Morristown, Morris Township and Morris Plains chose Bike and Walk Morristown co-founder Kendra Arnold.

A Morristown resident for over 10 years, Arnold was known for either leading an organized walk, on her bike, walking dogs or manning a booth seeking new members for Bike and Walk Morristown, an advocacy group promoting more and better options for bicycling and walking in town. She also has been a semi-regular blogger here on Patch.

This year, we're not limiting nominations to single persons, either. Do you think it was a group that did something noteworthy this year? How about a sports team, or maybe a local business that made a difference in the community?

Or, maybe you want to honor someone posthumously.

Consider the nomination period open right now. Post your thoughts in the comments section below. We won't have a vote-off unless it's too close to call, so the total number of nominations for a person, group or business on this thread will be our honoree.

We look forward to your nominations and, as always, thanks for your participation.

I recommend Shelly Nice-Schumaker (Sarah Price) for her outstanding commitment not only to her community as a whole, but as a humanitarian. She has taken a stand against bullying, and has written books about the topic. She has donated copies to schools and has spoken publicly about bullying. Having been the victim of social media bullying she has come out the winner by turning the other cheek and focusing her attention on helping others, not lashing out in hostility. Battling breast cancer, she has formed a group called Pink Umbrellas in order to raise and spread awareness of the disease, share her compassion and her daily experiences with the disease and treatment, and has written a devotional book for women suffering with breast cancer. Her love of life shines through in everything she does. She is the most positive and encouraging woman, a true friend to all. This lady truly sets an example for all the world to admire. Her strength and positivity have touched people around the globe!

I want to nominate Shelly Nice-Schumaker aka Sarah Price. I get the feeling, in reading many (almost all) of Sarah Price's books your community is a welcoming and friendly hometown. Sarah uses her books to get her voice out in print to thousands on topics she is deeply dedicated to conquer. From her Pink Umbrella website on female cancer to Tomato Patch on bullying; she takes on topics most authors ignore with grace and dignity for all to join or read and become enlightened and better educated on the topics. Good luck "Sarah", I hope you win this award from your community- it is well deserved.
