YMCA Children's Center Holds Food Drive for Interfaith Food Pantry

Blake Center at Greater Morristown YMCA drops off 280 pounds of food.

The children and staff at the Richard F. Blake Children’s Center second annual food drive to benefit the Morris Interfaith Food Pantry garnered 280 pounds of non-perishable food which was delivered last week.

The Blake Center is part of the Greater Morristown YMCA, which has a tradition of collaboration with the Interfaith Food Pantry, located in nearby Morris Plains.

This marked the second annual food drive held at the Blake Center, which provides child care and early childhood education for children ages six weeks to six years. The food collected will be used to fill Thanksgiving baskets that will be donated to families in Morris County.

According to YMCA director of development Dara Ely, the children were actively involved in the process, which taught them the importance of helping others in their community. The preschoolers were also able to practice their math skills by counting and sorting the donated food items that were delivered to the pantry.

Founded in 1874, The Greater Morristown YMCA is a non-profit organization focused on strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
