St. Virgil Academy Welcomes Students

For the 104th time in its history, St. Virgil Academy at 238 Speedwell Avenue in Morris Township opened its doors to welcome students, and parents alike, for the official start of the 2013/14 school year.  As both groups assembled in the school’s auditorium to officially launch the year, they were joined by the school’s principal, Mrs. Debbie Duane, and St. Virgil Pastor, Fr. Lance Reis.  The children gathered for the school’s daily Morning Prayer assembly and then headed off to their classrooms to meet their teachers, to reconnect with old friends and to meet new classmates.

The young St. Virgil Academy students in the early childhood program, those 2 ½ years of age through grade two,  will be taught through a Montessori approach to learning that includes discovery and inventive play.  Their curriculum includes art, music, physical education and Spanish, along with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in their own dedicated scientific exploration lab.

The older students, from grades three through eight, will also continue with their STEM education, which is one of the most robust curriculums in the area.  This year’s focus will include robotics and nanotechnology.  The bright, smiling faces that walked through the doors earlier this week are a testament to the energy and enthusiasm that is pouring out of each and every classroom.  The faculty is just as excited as the students to get started—everyone can’t wait to see what great things this year will bring.
