Baby OK After Cops Help Mom Get Into Car

Morris Township police rescue 1-year-old.

A 1-year-old baby boy is safe after Morris Township police freed him from a locked vehicle Monday, police said.

Chief Dennis Reilly said a call for assistance brought Ptl. Marc Costa to 340 West Hanover Ave., the site of the Morris County government complex. Costa found that the mother of a 1-year-old baby boy had accidentally locked her keys in the car with the baby still inside, Reilly said. The vehicle was not running, he said.

"Ptl. Costa was able to forcibly gain entry into the vehicle," Reilly said. "The mother was then able to remove the child."

The police department did not reveal the identity of mother or child.
