Burglars Ransacked Bedrooms, Made Off With $1K Cash, Cops Say

Morris Township resident returned home to find jewelry also missing.

A Pine Tree Lane residence in Morris Township was found to be burglarized Thursday, with bedrooms ransacked and cash and jewelry stolen, according to Morris Township police.

Police Chief John McGuinness said the homeowner returned to the house just after 6:30 to find a rear window pried open where it appeared as though a person or people had entered (the window is low to the ground). McGuinness said that the person or people "took their time inside, almost every drawer was opened and emptied."

About $1,100 in cash and jewelry has been reported stolen at this time.

The Morris County CIS and K-9 units responded to assist police with the investigation.

McGuinness said around the same time, a homeowner from Kennedy Road reported someone attempting to gain access to their home as well. The resident said one of her screens on a window was pushed up about 6 inches and the other screen has a puncture mark. But McGuinness said no one successfully entered the home from the windows.
