Car Hits School Bus, Kids Taken to Hospital

Students taken to Morristown Medical Center.

Columbia Road was reopened at around noon Wednesday after being closed between Normandy Parkway and Whippany Road, as police investigated a crash between a car and the back of a school bus.

The Morris School District bus was heading to the Normandy Parkway Elementary School this morning when a Subaru wagon rear-ended the bus, according to a statement released from the .

Ninteen of the students on the full bus had minor injuries, and were taken to for evaluation, according to police. Transportation was arranged to take the other kids to school who weren't injured. The driver of the bus did not have any reported injuries.

 responded to the scene at 9 a.m., and EMS crews from the , , Morristown, Madison, New Vernon, Cedar Knolls, Florham Park, and Mendham helped transport the injured students to Morristown Medical Center, according to the police.

Columbia Road was closed for about an hour in both directions while the incident was being investigated and while the students were being cared for.

Police said the Morris School District notified the parents of the injured students involved in the accident. 

As a result of minor front end damage the passenger car was towed from the scene, police said. The driver of the passenger car was issued a summons for alleged carless driving at the scene and released, police said.
