Cops: Driver Had Drugs in Car

The following arrest information was supplied by the Morris Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police say they caught a driver with what appeared to be heroin and paraphernalia during a traffic stop Wednesday.

Ptl. Jason Lawlor was patrolling the area of E. Hanover Ave when he noticed a gray Dodge make a prohibited left turn onto Cleveland Avenue, said. The driver, Roderick Stewart Jr. of Wharton, 43, admitted he didn't have valid license, police said.

Lawlor saw a white powdery substance he believed to be heroin, as well as paraphernalia used to inhale it, in the car, police said.

Stewart was taken to police headquarters for processing on chartges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernial, driving with a revoked license, making an unsafe lane change and making an improper turn, police said. Police found he was also wanted on active warrants from Roxbury and Morristown, police said. He was turned over to the custody of the Morristown Police Department.
