Cops: Driver Lied About Name, But We Found Out

Man had no ID during motor vehicle stop, police said.

Police say a Long Branch man lied about his name to avoid getting in trouble—but it didn't quite work out that way.

Juliano Silva, 23, was stopped Sept. 29 by Ptl. Dave Kosakowski because Silva's black Ford pickup didn't have a visible license plate or inspection sticker, Morris Township Capt. Rich Ferrone said in a statement from the police department.

Silva didn't have any ID, and provided another name, Ferrone said. But Kosakowski couldn't find a record of a driver's license under that false name, and investigated further, Ferrone said. The patrolman searched on a name—Silva's—he'd seen on a receipt in the truck, and found records showing Silva's license was revoked, Ferrone said.

Silva later admitted to lying to the officer, Ferone said. Silva was charged with of providing false information to police, driving with a revoked license and failure to inspect. Ferrone said. He was processed at police headquarters and released, Ferrone said.
