Cops In Shops Program Leads to DWI Arrest
The following arrest information was supplied by the Morris Township police department. It does not indicate a conviction.
A Morris Township man was arrested June 9 on charges of driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
Thomas Carey, 54, was arrested while police were at on Speedwell Avenue to monitor activity under the Cops in Shops initiative, a federally funded program that places officers at retail liquor locations to deter underage drinking, police said.
Ptl. Brian Markt and Ptl. Robert Hydock were outside the liquor store when they saw Carey drive into the parking lot, according to a statement from Morris Township Police Capt. Rich Ferrone. The officers thought Carey appeared intoxicated as he entered the store, Ferrone said.
