Cops: James Street-area Home Burglarized

Police advise taking steps to make your home appear occupied.

A burglar forced his or her way into a Morris Township home over the weekend, police said in a community alert issued Monday.

The burglary took place after dusk in the James Street area, while the residence was unoccupied, police said. The alert did not indicate what, if anything, was taken.

"Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity in their neighborhoods immediately the police," the alert states. "This includes both vehicles and people who look out of place. We also ask residents to take proactive steps to make their homes appear occupied. These steps include making sure garbage cans, newspapers, and mail have been taken in; interior and exterior lights are set to come on at dusk and having your homes watched by a neighbor or near by friend/family member if your home is unoccupied for a long period of time."
