Cops: Woman Recorded Manager After Sex Assault

Incident alleged to have occurred at Dick's Sporting Goods

Police say an employee of Dick's Sporting Goods secretly recorded a conversation with a manager who coerced her into sexual contact.

Riccardo Crugnale, a loss prevention manager for the store from Chester, NH, was arrested and charged Wednesday with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact for incidents authorities say took place at the East Hanover store.

The employee told police she was being interviewed by Crugnale when Crugnale asked her "what she would do to keep Crugnale from reporting her to the authorities," according to an affidavit signed by Detective John Fox of the East Hanover Police Department. It's not immediately clear what criminal acts the employee might have been accused of committing, with which Crugnale could have threatned her.

Then the employee said, she left the room and turned on the recording feature of her cell phone, to capture the rest of their conversation—"during which time [Crugnale] asked her if she liked it]— according ot the affidavit.

The affidavit also states that in the recording, Crugnale says he's worried the employee would tell someone about the alleged encounter—and the employee responds she doesn't want to go to jail.

Police also collected swabbings from the employee, using a sexual assault kit, for analysis, according to the affidavit.

Crugnale was relesed on bail set by Judge Andrew Wubbenhorst of $2,500, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.
