Ex-Scout Leader Accused of Sexually Abusing Teens

Morris Plains resident was also charged in January with allegedly exposing a child to porn in 2011.

A Morris Plains man and former Parsippany Boy Scout leader accused in January of showing child pornography to a boy was arrested again Thursday on charges he molested two teenage boys in the 1990s, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

Stephen Corcoran, 45, is accused of one count of aggravated sexual assault, multiple counts of sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stem from accusations Corcoran molested a 13-to-16-year-old boy between 1997 and 1998, and another 16-to-18-year-old boy in 1999.

Acting Morris County Prosecutor Frederic Knapp, Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Police Chief Anthony DeZenzo and Morris Plains Police Chief Scott Thompson announced the arrest Friday.

According to the accusations, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office was informed in September that Corcoran had sexually assaulted two victims while involved with the Parsippany-based Boy Scout Troop 173 between 1997 and 1999. He was an assistant scout master and advisor to the Eagle Scouts at the time, according to the complaint.

Both the former Scouts accusing Corcorcan specifically referenced a summer 1999 incident in which the defendant and both victims engaged in a "threesome," according to the complaint.

Bail has been set at $150,000 with a 10 percent option and Corcoran has been ordered to have no contact with the victims and no contact with children under 16, according to the prosecutor's office.

In November, a 30-year-old filed a lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America, saying he was allegedly victimized as a teen by Corcoran in the 1990s. The suit had also named Patriots Path Council for placing Corcoran in charge of the scouts, the report said.

The alleged victim, now a grown man identified in court records as "Jack Doe," charges his former scout leader with abusing him sexually on "hundreds" of occasions starting in 1993 while he was a member of Troop 173 at Littleton Elementary School in Parsippany.

Corcoran was arrested and charged in January with second-degree distribution of child pornography, as well as fourth-degree possession of child pornography.

According to an affidavit on file with the Morris County Court, the prosecutor’s office conducted an interview with a boy who said Corcoran invited him over to his home in October 2011 and showed him child pornography. The affidavit says an investigation of Corcoran’s computer revealed images of nude underage males, as well as videos of underage males engaging in various sex acts.
