Man Tried Luring Morris Twp. Girl From Bus Stop, Cops Say

Teen told police the Hispanic man fled when she went back into her home.

Morris Township police say a man may have attempted to lure a 14-year-old girl from her bus stop Wednesday morning.

The Morristown High School students said she was waiting for the bus at 6:55 a.m. when she noticed a Jeep – either tan or gray in color – park across the street from her, police Chief John McGuinness said. The bus stop is at the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Bennington Road.

A Hispanic man got out of the passenger side of the car and walked toward the girl, McGuinness said, but she turned and ran toward her home just a short distance from the bus stop.

The teen was alone and told police she heard the man yell in either Spanish or English with a Spanish accent, McGuinness said.

By the time the girl had reached the front door of her home, the man was at the bottom of the driveway, according to McGuinness, but he then fled when she went inside.
