Loaded Handgun, Drugs Found in Car, Police Say

Morristown cops said they saw the SUV filled with smoke.

A Morristown resident faces gun and drug charges and two Parsippany men were charged with marijuana possession after Morristown police said they found them in a smoke-filled SUV with a loaded handgun parked on Clyde Potts Drive Monday night.

Officer Roberto Rosado said he saw people sitting in a rented 2013 Chevy Tahoe around 9:20 p.m. The inside of the car seemed like it was filled with smoke, said police.

When Rosado walked up to the car, he saw that there were three men inside. The driver, a 23-year-old Parsippany resident, rolled down the window and Rosado smelled burnt marijuana, said police.

More police officers responded and found an unspecified amount of suspected marijuana in the back of the car and all three were arrested: 21-year-old Morristown resident Daniel Godfrey and two Parsippany men.

After police took Godfrey out of the car, they saw a handgun in the back seatpocket where Godfrey was sitting, police said. The gun was loaded with a single hollow-point round. Also, other items of paraphernalia were found, which showed that they intended to distribute the suspected marijuana, said police.
