While hundreds of town police departments will be cracking down on seat belt violating motorists from May 19 to June 1 thanks to grants for additional patrols, Morristown won’t be joining the bunch.
Many towns in the area are receiving grants in the amount of $4,000 to use for additional patrol units for the two-week initiative. Morristown, however, did not receive a grant, and will not be adding officers to the patrol division during that time.
Morristown Police Department said it will apply for a grant again in the fall with the hopes of taking part in a future campaign.
In 2013, the Click It or Ticket campaign saw 422 police departments in New Jersey issue 26,049 seat belt citations to go along with 860 drunken driving arrests during the two-week initiative.
Do motorists in Morristown have an issue with seat belt violations? Is Morristown being overlooked by not having grant money to increase patrols for the Click It or Ticket campaign?
