Morristown Police Won't Take Part in 'Click It or Ticket' Campaign

Local squad does not receive grant to step up patrols between May 19 and June 1.

While hundreds of town police departments will be cracking down on seat belt violating motorists from May 19 to June 1 thanks to grants for additional patrols, Morristown won’t be joining the bunch.

Many towns in the area are receiving grants in the amount of $4,000 to use for additional patrol units for the two-week initiative. Morristown, however, did not receive a grant, and will not be adding officers to the patrol division during that time.

Morristown Police Department said it will apply for a grant again in the fall with the hopes of taking part in a future campaign.

In 2013, the Click It or Ticket campaign saw 422 police departments in New Jersey issue 26,049 seat belt citations to go along with 860 drunken driving arrests during the two-week initiative.

Do motorists in Morristown have an issue with seat belt violations? Is Morristown being overlooked by not having grant money to increase patrols for the Click It or Ticket campaign?

MPD has enough to do without wasting time with this. Unless grant money is received to have additional patrol cars out there doing this instead of their regular patrols, it will squander whatever limited resources they have out on the street.

I think all police departments have better things to do with their time and OUR MONEY! Cancel the grant program.

I am a grown man. I don't need no policeman telling me to put on a seat belt. I am no child. I need to follow these cops to the restaurants and tell them to order a salad, fat asssses. I find it offensive to be pulled over to be told by a uniform to put my seat belt on and then give me a ticket or steal money from me. I have a dash cam and I have been collecting footage of cops laughing and talking on the cell phone while driving, without using their seat belts, running red lights, speeding without their emergency lights on, pulling out on to people in the fast lane making everyone brake to avoid hitting them. I can't wait to show this footage to a jury. seriously, you guys need to buy a dash cam. they are cheap now. 60 bucks can get you a nice dash cam that will supply endless youtube footage.
