Today we're bringing you a fairly eclectic '5 Things'

You already know it's cold, you already know it's icy, and you hopefully already know the comfort a good cup of hot chocolate or coffee can bring during a week like this.

So what else could you possibly want to know today? Here's our best shot at answering that question:

  1. You Need To Know It's Not Too Late To Join the Moms Council: Patch is looking for moms who can help us figure out what sort of info parents really want to know; who can serve as our experts on mom-related issues; and who can turn to one another for advice, community and friendship. Sound good? . And whether you're on the Moms Council already or not, weigh in on our latest question for Moms:
  2. You Need To Know You Can Get Involved With The Community Garden: Morris Township and the Morris County Park Commission are planning a community garden for this year. Space at the member-run garden will be offered based on first-come, first-served, basis, according to the township. So if you'd like a plot, reserve it by e-mailing morriscommunitygarden@gmail.com. You can volunteer to help at the garden as well.
Morris Plains is also working on a community garden. ().
  3. You Need To Know You Can Purchase A 9/11 Memorial T-Shirt from Morris Plains: Purchases will go toward building a memorial in the borough. The T-shirts cost $18 each. See here for an order form.
  4. You Need To Know There Was a Big Explosion A Town Over: If your travels take you over to the Lake Parsippany area, you'll see the remnants of Vreeland Tire Supply, where a major explosion Wednesday shut down area roadways as multiple fire departments battled the resulting blaze. Parsippany's mayor called the store a piece of Parsippany history. .
  5. You Need To Know Important Census Data Is Coming: Remember those 10 questions the U.S. Census Bureau asked you to fill out in 2010? News organizations and the public expect to get their first real look at the demographic data collected in the once-a-decade headcount on or about Friday. How do you think Morris Plains and Morris Township have changed in 10 years? Tell is in the comments below (and we'll tell you what the stats say, just as soon as we have them).
