Police Blotter: Domestic Violence, Underage Drinking, Outstanding Narcotics Warrant

An incidence of underage drinking, a domestic violence complaint and the arrest of a man with an outstanding warrant in Alabama occurred in recent days in Morris Plains, according to Detective Sergeant Edward Dobbins of the Morris Plains Police Department.

On February 27, police said, Sgt. Michael Koroski stopped a vehicle on Route 10 for speeding. Two people who were in the car, neither of whom were driving, now face charges. Police say Alexander Ortiz, 18, of Elizabeth and Edward Michalak IV, of Mt. Laurel, 20, were charged with underage consumption of alcohol and having open containers of alcohol in a vehicle. Both were released pending a first appearance in court.

Also on February 27, police said they responded to a domestic violence complaint at a residence located on Rt. 202. Martin Stark, 55, was taken into custody, charged with assault and released pending a first appearance court date.

On February 28, Ptl. Dan Gallagher stopped a vehicle for speeding on Glenbrook Road, police said. The driver, Robert Hopper, 32, of Morris Plains, was found to have a no-bail warrant for his arrest out of Decatur, Alabama, police said. The warrant was for narcotics violations. Hopper was taken to the Morris County Jail, where he will await extradition.
