Pot Left On Stove Causes Fire

Serious blaze averted

On June 6, both the Morris Township police and the Morris Township fire department responded to a fire alarm on Columbia Road.

According to police Capt. Rich Ferrone, a burning smell was coming from the house but no one appeared to be home. After the front door was forced open, the fire department entered and discovered that a pot of food had been left unattended on the stove and had started to burn.

Although a serious fire was averted, police said the event should serve as a reminder to others.

"Residents are reminded to always stay in the kitchen while cooking and never leave dishes unattended when on a lit stove top," Ferrone said.
