A 28-year-old Morris Plains man faces several charges after he for hours Sunday night, , the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.
Stephen Gant was charged with fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
Gant is being held at the Morris County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail with a 10 percent option.
According to the prosecutor's office, Gant barricaded himself and threatened to harm himself with a knife Sunday night inside his family's Burch Drive residence. Authorities arrived at about 8:30 p.m., and about 20 nearby residents were evacuated to the Morris Borough School as a precaution before returning to their homes Monday morning at about 4 a.m., the prosecutor's office said.
A woman who was dog-sitting next door to the home where Gant allegedly barricaded himself was among those evacuated. , she said.
First responders from the , the Morris County Sheriff's Office Emergency Response Team (SERT), Minute Men EMS, Morris County Prosecutor's Office Tactical Team, Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), Major Crimes Unit, Morris County Park Police, and the Morris County Office of Emergency Management responded to the Burch Drive residence Sunday night around 8:30 p.m.
