Township Police: Get Ready for Irene

Residents are advised to prepare for "widespread flooding, trees down, and power outages."

Capt. Rich Ferrone of the Morris Township Police Department said that local officials are planning for the approach of Hurricane Irene and "will continue to work together as [the storm] approaches."

"It appears that she has her sights on Northern New Jersey," Ferrone said. "Residents should expect widespread flooding, trees down, and power outages."

The key is to take action sooner rather than later, he said. "We encourage residents to prepare now. A stockpile of food and water should be on hand in the event the power outages are long in duration."

Don't plan to take your car out in the storm, Ferrone said. "With the peak of the storm looking like it will strike on Sunday, residents are asked to stay off of the area roadways beginning Saturday night."

Ferrone said resident should, "keep following the track of Irene and continue their preparations for severe weather." For additional help in preparing for the storm, he suggested visiting the Morris County Hurricane Preparedness web site.
