Two Parked Cars Hit, Morris Plains Woman Arrested on Charges of Driving Under the Influence

Other charges included careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Morris Plains resident Julie Ashforth, 43, was arrested Wednesday on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident and driving without a driver's license or registration in her possession.

According to Detective Sgt. Edward Dobbins of the Morris Plains Police Department, police responded to reports of a car accident just before 10 p.m. on Feb. 23. Arriving at the scene on Franklin Place near the intersection of Mountain Way, police found that a vehicle had struck a parked car and become disabled. Police say they learned that the vehicle, operated by Ashforth, had previously struck another parked car near the intersection of Franklin Place and Keenan Place, left the scene and hit the second parked car.

Police said that an investigation by Sgt. Michael Rolph found Ashforth to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and she was arrested.
