Unlocked Car Thefts Prompt Morris Twp. Police Warning

Police said valuable items were taken from James Street neighborhood.

Morris Township police are asking residents to lock their cars and remove valuable items to prevent them from being stolen following the thefts of several vehicles in the James Street neighborhood on Friday night.

According to an alert sent through the township's Nixle system, officers responded to the neighborhood after items were reported stolen. Capt. Richard Ferrone said police believed the apparent thefts happened between midnight and 5 a.m.

"The items taken from the unlocked cars ranged from loose change to woman's purses," he said. "Residents are reminded not to leave valuables in their vehicles and to secure them when leaving them outside."
