Urgent Message From Police: Stay Home!
Chief Dennis Reilly and Chief Scott Thompson ask for citizen cooperation.
The message from both local police departments is simple.
Stay home.
"We have people thinking it's a nice Sunday afternoon now. It's not," said Morris Township Chief of Police Dennis Reilly. "We have roads closed due to flooding, we have trees down, wires down."

Reilly said it is especially important that motorists stay off any roads that have been closed by police.
"We have people trying to drive through these roads, then they get stuck and we have to go rescue them. We're pulling resources from areas where they are needed."

According to Chief Scott Thompson of Morris Plains, a car circumvented several barricades, drove onto a blocked-off section of Route 53 and got stuck in four feet of water. The driver was rescued, but the car remains stranded.
"The fewer cars we have on the road, the better," Thompson said.
