Construction Permit Fees Waived in Township

On the heels of Morristown's decision last week to waive construction permit fees following Hurricane Sandy, Morris Township announced Monday it would do so, as well.

The following is a letter issued by the township:

Morris Township will waive permit fees for property owners of Morris Township who suffered damage to their homes and businesses as a result of high winds, downed trees, electrical wires down and/or extended power outages.  

Uniform Construction Code municipal permit fees for construction code applications (electrical, plumbing and building) submitted to replace components or repair damage as a result of the Oct. 29 and Oct. 30 storm will be waived for the period of Oct. 31, 2012 to Jan. 31, 2013 subject to verification by the construction code official.  

The Township Committee plans to adopt a resolution for this waiver at the Nov. 20 Township committee meeting (scheduled for 7 p.m. —ed.). The Mayor and Township Committee feel this is the proper course of action to assist our residents who suffered damage to their homes and businesses as a result of the hurricane. The State of New Jersey has authorized municipalities to waive local and state fees for work made necessary by hurricane damage.
